Permalink - Which to use?

OK… I'm Lost -

I have just uploaded my Classipress.zip file to the Wordpress platform, and completed the items up to point #10 – Permalinks, in the “Getting started” document.

I have read several of the links related to Permalinks, and am in a dilemma wondering what I should do with all this information.

Background: My Classipress app for my website anticipates thousands of visitors, with several categories, but drilling only a few pages deep with each of the sub-categories (I think).

Having perhaps, 100 item links per sub-category page, I need all the speed and SEO capabilities possible, especially with the pictures attached to each link.

Cutting through all the either/or’s discussed in the discussion links, what Permalink format do you suggest as being the best strategy toward meeting the long-term needs of my website, without having to go back and starting over??
Host Gator offers its included default as: /%postname%/
