With text box type (custom field) - How can one filter search?

Hi,

I have items in entirely different categories. For instance, I have to use "mileage" data field (text box type) for cars. There is no better choice for data type. Apparently, it is not applicable to other items like clothing, as an example. I purchased classipress "Quick-Search" plugins, but it appears that it does not serve my purpose. because I have different form layouts with different custom fields for different items.

What I want to do is to enable the searching of the fields like "mileage" by setting the limits (e.g by putting MIN and MAX values in the search engine for "mileage" by the visitors or by putting a slider (like location range) that will enable them to search based on the limit they set. How can I do that?
