    How to remove index.php from the URL leading to pages

    Why is there a "index.php"
    in the URL of every page I access, for example:
    http://mywebsite.com/index.php/projects/
    http://mywebsite.com/index.php/post-a-project/
    http://mywebsite.com/index.php/categories/

    IS there a setting that removes "index.php" from the URL?
