Location filter - group by or display State?

Currently I have the Geolocation settings set to:
Country=au (Australia)
Location Type=cities
Refine Search=location

This currently works well as I would like users to input a Suburb (city) for the location of Projects and Freelancers.
Although when viewing the Projects and Freelancers, the sidebar where the search filters are will list ALL the suburbs, regardless of State.
Additionally, the State is not listed next to the Suburb.
Is there a way that we can GROUP BY State? or at minimum list the state after the Suburb (city)?

For example: Fitzroy is a Suburb both in South Australia and Victoria States, although they will appear the same to the user as it will just display "Fitzroy".
Additionally the list will be extremely long if you have Freelancers/Projects from ALL suburbs within every State of Australia....

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
