Child Theme Question

I am using JobRoller and purchased JobApps as a child theme. I have been reading up on adding custom fields to my Resume forms, and the suggestion is to alter files that would be overwritten on an update - so to create a Child Theme before making the customization's. It is my understanding that you cannot use more than 1 child theme at a time. JobApps is the child theme so should the form changes be made in that theme?

It seems like using Garvity Forms would be easier - is there a way to create the form I want in Gravity forms then use that instead of the Resume?
