CUSTOM POST TYPE Errors

I have used a plugin and build a Custom Post Type. But when i use the CPT on Home page Menus and when we click on the links, it does not open the post. It brings us back on the home page itself.

Do we need to register the CPTs made, in some theme-functions.php (as is suggested by the Plugin).

Just thought of confirming, before modifying the core files.
