Is there a need to create custom post type (ads)?

Is there really a need to create custom post type (ads)? Why can't we just dropped the blog post entirely and create a subdomain for blog i.e. have a separate wordpress install in their subdomain for blogging purpose.
Reading your blog post about this major change, from my understanding is, your main reason is to separate the ads posts to blog posts. I'm sure the main priority of people who bought this theme is the classified ads not blogging. And if others are keen they can always do a fresh install in their domain.com/blog. Making all ad postings url in the root which is quite important. And not the other way around.
Will it still be absolutely necessary if the blog part had been dropped completely?
