Change Listing Categories from Radio buttons to checkboxes

Hi,

With the Vantage theme, how can we change the Listing Categories from radio buttons. Currently I tell the system they can choose more than 1 category, but they still can't on the front end because they are showing as radio button. How do we control how these categories ? Probably checkboxes will be a better solution.

Also my client has HUNDREDs of categories, and currently it displays in one big ugly list, is there a way to make it span 3 columns or integrate a search function? Is there anything like that available for when there are heaps of categories to list in??
