Can't get the listings button to appear on the home page

Hi

Have watched the getting started video and the first thing she says is to go into Settings and tick "anyone can register" which I have. Apparently a Register and Create Listing button appear on the Home page. They don't for me. I only have Home, About, Blog and Contact in the top menu and nothing changes when I toggle the "anyone can register" option on and off.

I do have a child theme (just with basic style.css and functions.php files but no extra code in either of them beyond what was suggested on your guide page) and I've switched between the child theme and the Vantage theme itself and it doesn't make any difference.

I also have the Under Construction plugin as a holding page for the site, but I've deactivated that and it still doesn't change that top menu.

What do I do to make the Register and Create Listing buttons appear?
