Cannot Install Plugins

This morning I discovered the SMTP plugin I am using on 3 sites no longer worked. I removed it from all 3 and tried to reinstall from WP. The plugin no longer exists.

I have tried to install other smtp plugins which are up to date. When I try to activate I get a blank page. I found it necessary to delete each plugin from FTP files since I could no longer access the Plugin page on the site. I tried to install other types of plugins and get the same results. After the plugin is down loaded and I click on ACTIVATE the page goes blank.

At this time I am only running JobRoller and FXtender. No other plugins will activate and have been removed.

I do not understand how this occurred from one day to the next with no change made in the sites or WP.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a repair? I really need to keep these sites going and I need the email process from smtp, since they are 3 of my busiest.
