Is there anyway to set a custom home page?

Hi all,

First of all thanks for making an amazing theme/template, it's working perfectly for us, but we'd like to add a custom home page if possible.

When changing the option under Settings -> Reading to static page, it's tricky to find a way back to the job listings, but after a little digging found that adding ?page_id=0 to the query string directed us back to this page. However, the news page (?page_id=5) then shows the listings too, with seemingly no way to view the news site.

Basically, changing the home page to static breaks the 'News' page as well as making it tricky to find a way back to the home page.

Is there a way around this? Or could anyone please shed any light as to why when setting a static page as the home page, the news page (a completely different section) then changes too?
