Drop-down field is not shown in the Advanced Search sidebar

I have two fields in "custom fields", state(drop-down) and city(custom field in drop-down), both marked for advanced search in my custom form, but in the sidebar appear as checkbox instead of drop down.
Does anyone know the reason? I need both in drop-down.

There is the possibility of having drop-down state and select a state loading the cities of that state?
