just listed but ad has expired

Expires: This ad has expired

I just listed an ad as a user and when I first looked at the published approved ad it says it is expired.

I can not seem to renew it at all ... as the user or the admin.

How do ads get renewed?
it is a published ad, so I can not republish it
there is no where in the user section to request renewal even though I turned renewals on in the settings
