prevent a category from showing on the front page, the actual ad itself?

Is it possible to have some category submissions not show up in the featured slider and the list of ads below without interfering with code, i have created some listing type pages using the create category and form layout sections, that i dont want showing its entries on the front page.hope this makes sense.
