Real time Twitter Feed - How does it work?

Can anyone explain how to set up the CP Real Time Twitter Feed.

The feed displays fine, but when I click on 'follow me on Twitter' I get a pop-out window that says:

"Connect thomasbillenstein.com with your Twitter account to interact with your followers and share content through your timeline."

I assume this has something to do with the Twitter API so I created a new API. However, when I then try to follow the Twitter feed using my own personal account I get the same message as above (although under my account) but I don't seem to be following the Tweets. Surely I should now be following my site on Twitter?
