Event pagination creating 404 page errors

I've just launched www.bay-of-islands.co.nz
The events section has a menu for search and pagination where you can click select months or years. The trouble is...

1. It displays previous and future years with no events
2. The pagination displays blank pages if there is no event for the month
3. Any date without an event creates a 404 page (terrible for SEO)

Is there any way I can turn off the pagination and remove the date menu without custom coding? I ran a link check using Xenu and it shows all the empty event pages as 404 errors, which Google will hate!
