concerning the 2 check boxes in the search header

hi team,

I have 1 page with the listing and a different one with the events.

In the Listing page, I'd like to have the listing box ticked by default.
In the Events page, I'd like to have the event box ticked by default.

My IT workers told me that it's currently impossible because it's not possble to modify the following function "get_the_search_post_type" .
He told me that a function like "if(function_exist) " would have been needed in front of it.

would it be possible to surcharge the function to correct that ?
