How to modify search query

Hi

How would I go about modifying the main "Search for" to include a number that does not return exact results and the most relevant results would show such as a custom form "availability date" such like those on holiday sites with +/- 3 days?

Also how would I remove the Business/Events radio button and make it search for both at the same time?
