Two nagging issues (plus a few suggestions)
There are two nagging issues (plus a few suggestions) that I have noted while building my directory listings:
1. The search function will sometimes simply not find a listing even though the word(s) or words searched for are in the title, listing tags, and body. This is quite erratic and I have not figured out why. It is a significant problem though, I believe.
2. It would be nice if the Twitter and Facebook entry spaces were consistent in both the 'Add New' and edit from the main page listing modes. The 'Add New page simply has blocks which (even knowing better) tends to cause me to enter the whole listing (I.E. -
http://www.twitter.com/TwitterAcctName) which ends up appearing as '@http://www.twitter.com/BizAcctName' in the listing. Erratically the same thing happens with Facebook. The edit from the main page has the space to enter the info with the '@' sign for Twitter indicating that you need to enter just the partial location (I.E. - @TwitterAcctName). Similar problems exist for Facebook but seem to show up more erratically. Where the 'problem' exists, you will get a Facebook listing like 'http://www.facebook.com/http://www.facebook.com/FacebookAcctName'. Obviously these can be fixed after the fact but it is time consuming. It would be nice if this was consistent!
3. The primary listing thumbnails should be larger for ALL AppThemes products! The little 50px things show almost nothing. They should be roughly 100px square or a similar 4:3 aspect ratio (standard photos) of a similar size. Larger would be OK too. 90-100px works perfectly with Vantage. Ebay's pictures keep getting bigger and bigger. My guess is that they have done research on the value of descriptive photos. NOTHING looks worse than the center of a logo or photo showing with much cropped off for that matter. That should be addressed without external modifications as well. I have voted for the thumbnail size change as was noted in an earlier post. I do honestly believe that this basic change is quite valuable and supported by other sites actions though. I can't think of anywhere that I go that uses 50px thumbnails for anything significant such as base listings.
4. It would be nice if the 'Child Theme' tutorial had more info. It has had some examples added but there are many questions that I (and I suspect others) have about how and what can be placed in the Child Theme. Most tutorials (and not just the one here) tell how to handle the .css file but not much more. There should be a bit more fundamental info and explanation added in addition to the examples which are now present. For myself, many of my mods are in the Child Theme and will remain after the coming update. I will have to write many back in manually though too which is no fun.
5. There should be a third level of listing available for purchase. Basic should be free, then there should be a notable (and inexpensive) upgrade that is ahrd to pass up, and a deluxe listing. All info should be included in all listing such as Facebook, etc. but pictures and headlines should larger and placement should be improved. This would creat far more sales opportunities which should indirectly halp the product from AppThemes sales perspective!
Thanks for reading this!
