1- google do rank better
2 to change the review into microdata just change css using the correct google microdata format for reviews..there is a thread talking about it in forum or it takes 5 minute to change accessing review php
3-it usefull to motivate client o advertise a voting site and can be used for bloging for the generale seo of the site
it has nothing non ethical to my eyes that google does rank better coded sites. and it goes the same using vcard or hcard that i added to the blog template. it should be included in next update since it s only css and basic wp function to automate it and now required by the biggest search engines.
4- add authorship function to it your listing on google will have a picture poping out on each listing with rating stars
