Simple php query script

I want some simple php script without plugins for my site.

1) the first script is to query my post by categories and to list them with the numbers of posts on the side- I have create two separate landing pages. one for the jobseekers and the other for the employers. on the jobseekers side i just want to list only the post and the categories that belong to them and the employers likewise.

2) With the second script i want to list 10 recent post of particular categories in the sidebar.
