Vantage Category problem

I am having a problem with the categories listing after a search and the REFINE option comes up.

After a search, when the REFINE option comes up in the right sidebar, the categories are listed below. But they are all expanded and seem to be either out of order or not in parent/child/sub format. I don't understand how to correct this - it doesn't appear to be a widget with settings unless I can't find it. But it makes the site look like a mess and needs to be corrected.

I would appreciate some help on how to fix this.
