Contractor site - Vantage or Jobroller

    Hi,

I'm thinking about building a contractor site based on your theme. The idea is to list contractors who are providing services within certain areas, ie. radius from their office. The user would then search for either a certain service (provided by contractor) or location (where the service is needed). Would either Vantage of Jobroller theme be appropriate for this?

    Thanks,
    Mike

Vantage would be the more suitable of the two themes mentioned for what you describe. This allows the customer to select category, or search by keywords or location, and within location they can also set a distance radius as seen on the Vantage demo site. Thanks.

    Hi,

Thanks for your reply. Here's a follow-up question:

Is it possible to have contractors select their location from a list rather than have them write it down in a text field? Here's the scenario I'm looking for:
    1) Contractor creates a listing and specifies the his services and the city in which he works.
    2) User searches for contractors by selecting work type and the city where work is needed.
    3) If there are too many search results, the user can refine the search by adjusting radius and work type (more specific category).

    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

Sorry for the hassle, but here's yet anothet follow-up ;)

Is it possible for the contractor to have a certain working radius set? Then the contractor would show up in the search results only if the user's set location is within the contractor's location + radius.

    Thanks,
    Mike

You could create a custom dropdown field if you wanted to manually enter in locations for them to choose from, however this is not linked to the actual Google map which is used when the user initially enters a location into the listing form. So essentially no, it doesn't work the way in which you describe by default. If however you want the front end user to be able to filter locations you could look at a plugin such as this for this purpose.

Again, this is based on the Google map and what the contractor initially enters in as their location. You may get a better idea of how this works if you use the create listing option on the Vantage demo site (you'll be able to see the process, although not actually post a listing). Thanks.
